On February 2010, Givology Korean chapter engaged in a Youth Expo organized in Seoul, Korea. Over hundred youth activities from different fields were gathered to advertise their works and invite members. Our chapter found the Expo a great opportunity to promote us. The first step was to make posters and pamphlets explaining Givology and Givology Korean chapter and its progress. Then we made badges with Givology logo to distribute as souvenir for people visiting Givology corner. The activities we prepared for the expo was face-painting and video-clip show. Among our members was a student very talented at art; She prepared face-painting of apple symbolizing Givology logo for kids visiting our corner.
On the day of the expo, we went to the site early morning and attended opening ceremony explaining the purpose of Youth expo. After the ceremony, we decorated Givology corner: the poster was hung on the top, the laptop playing video clip we pictured regarding lack of primary education in third world was placed on the desk, face-painting gadgets and catalog was prepared on the little table in front of our corner. After setting up, we spread to other corners and attracted people to Givology corner. This part was most challenging. Most people visiting the expo did not know Givology and there were numerous volunteer activities in the expo to take away people’s attention. We had to show people that if people donate and promote Givology, their money will be used in the most efficient way and for charitable purpose. Thus we explained that Givology was volunteer organization found in United States by university students and it donates seed money to school with inadequate fund and unprivileged children in the third world. We also underscored the significance of Givology as compared to giant volunteer organization founded by adults. People displayed interest in our activity and some donated for us.
We were also interviewed by a newspaper reporter who demonstrated great interest in our activity. He told us that he was surprised to see Korean students working for an independent chapter for global organization. After the interview, the day was almost over, and we closed the Givology corner. Although we did not received less donation than we had expected, it was a meaningful time to raise people’s awareness about lack of primary education and also to get along with people organizing and participating different youth activities.

For the biggest festival of CSIA, Givology Korea Chapter members gathered around to prepare for donation campaign; for 2 weeks, we made posters and pamphlets to advertise the donation campaign and planned campaign schedule at CSIA Festival. However, the reality is not the same as we expected to be. Even though we’ve done bake sale on May, the donation campaign at CSIA Festival was completely different from bake sale because this campaign didn’t give donors any substantial recompense for their donation, which we did in bake sale. Sometimes, when our members explain Givology system and ask for donation, people just walk away or say that they don’t have money. However, mostly, when CHOA members explain Givology system and ask for donation, people (students, teachers, and parents) didn’t hesitate to open their wallets because they recognize that child education is crucial to development, and everyone has right to have such a marvelous opportunity. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 16 people were divided into 4 groups of 4 people: Two Explainers, Photographer, and Badges and Boxes Keeper. Also, for anyone who donated, we gave badges in return. We made 500 badges, and we gave 342 badges for donors or even people who are interested in donation and Givology. (It doesn’t necessarily mean 342 donors.) 91610 won was donated, but real profit from donation is 41610 won (37 dollars) because of badges. After all, we were delighted to participate in donation campaign with such cooperative and compassionate people and it led to great success of our campaign. Even though our donated money wasn't significant enough to make "real" help for children, we absolutely made significant contribution to raising awareness about children education. This donation campaign became our first great step of Givology Korea chapter, CHOA.

We made the video about the donation campaign and posted on You Tube!
