Ecuador Sostenible was formed with the purpose of creating, administering, and executing economic, cultural, and social development projects in the areas of health, nutrition, education, law, human rights, environment, and community advocacy. In particular, Ecuador Sostenible focuses on supporting society’s vulnerable and marginalized, including street children, the disabled, and the poor. Ecuador Sostenible does not have a political or religious affiliation – instead, focusing on providing sustainable solutions to the country’s most challenging problems. As a hub of community advocacy and grassroots efforts, Ecuador Sostenible supports local non-profit organizations in both urban and rural areas of the province of Tungurahua in Ecuador. To help society’s vulnerable and marginalized, Ecuador Sostenible provides technical assistance and consulting expertise to help these nonprofit organizations accomplish their objectives.

Over the past decade, Ecuador Sostenible has created international and domestic volunteer programs to engage students and professionals throughout the world to support local non-profits and schools in Ecuador. The technical assistance provided by Ecuador Sostenible contributes holistically to development by supporting the capacity of local institutions.

Ecuador Sostenible was part of the Foundation for Sustainable Development Network (http://www.fsdinternational.org) until last year, when it spun out as an independent program. Ecuador Sostenible emphasizes the importance of “bottom-up” movements. The organization works directly at the community level to support the empowerment and capacity of grassroots organizations and the individuals they serve. Rather than supporting government and international entities, Ecuador Sostenible partners with locally managed, locally founded community-based organizations (CBOs) who understand and represent the voice of their communities. Through building solid relationships and working side-by-side with local community leadership, FSD produces collaborative solutions that offer the greatest chance for sustainable results.

Givology is in the process of negotiating the details of the partnership with Ecuador Sostenible. Since Ecuador Sostenible is involved with numerous community-based organizations involved in promoting access to and quality of education in Ecuador, Givology will help raise funding for these initiatives.
